ELIZABETH DAVID’S CHELSEA
HERO – Elizabeth David – the woman who ‘saved
our guts’ in the 1950s. Before Elizabeth
appeared the only place (in this country) where you could buy olive oil, was
in little glass
vials in chemists for loosening ear wax. Elizabeth was the grand daughter
of a Viscount but
ran off to the theatre. Her life in Cairo during World War II inspired her
to become a food
writer. Her French Provincial Cooking has recently been voted by top chefs
as the best
cookery book of all time. She lived, cooked, entertained, wrote and died in
Chelsea. An
ikon of the Swinging Sixties. This is a walk for lovers of good food and great
architecture.
