WILL ON THE HILL

HERO – William Shakespeare came to London, already middle aged (27), determined to
become a poet in a nobleman’s household. As it turned out, he had to scrap a living rewriting
other men’s plays (like any Hollywood hack today), until at last he had a hit, creating one of
the English stage’s best villains – King Richard III. Walk the neighbourhood where later in
his career Will had his winter theatre at Blackfriars, Discover Ludgate Hill, under the great
bells of St Pauls.
