HERO - General Montgomery. The man who planned and executed D-Day. Monty had
commanded the victorious British 8th Army in Africa and Italy, and was the Allies’ leading
expert on amphibious landings against a defended shore. He planned D-Day from the
buildings of his old public school, St Pauls in Hammersmith. Hitler got wind of it and in
February 1944 launched a precision bombing raid across West London. We can follow the
devastation – it’s still there if you know what to look out for – and see how close Hitler
came to ‘Nailing Monty’.
