
There was the notable occasion during the Peasants Revolt in
1381. In the
Middle Ages when things went wrong it was never the fault of the King.
He had been
annointed by God. He was Gods Elect. Any disagreement the people
had with
government was all due to "the Kings evil advisers"
When the population of England was decimated by the 1348/9 Black Death
(one third of
the country died), agricultural workers in Essex and Kent found themselves
in a "sellers
market" and their wages rose because there were fewer hands to work
the land. However,
by 1381 the nobility (i.e. the landowners) were determinded to peg wages,
and the farm
workers rose in revolt and
marched on London
